Debra Shelswell

A resident of Oro-Medonte, Debra is a self-taught mixed media artist who has exhibited her unique work in various galleries and art shows for over 30 years. Each piece is an intuitively blended composition of diverse elements including metal, wood, leather, stone, crystals and many other intriguing materials and found objects. Combinations of the various media result in unique tactile pieces that stimulate the imagination, and she is always searching for new treasures to inspire the joy of experimentation and play. The title of each assemblage is also carefully considered as it can add another thought- provoking component to the presentation. “Much of my work is quite open to individual interpretation and it’s interesting to witness and discuss the personal observations, emotions and memories that can be kindled with a connection to a certain piece.”
