Bio

“Rub-a-dub-dub, Three Maids In A Tub”!

Following the critical and popular triumphs of the last two seasons Ralph continues in his exploration, through the alchemy of paint, of the inherent absurdities in La Comedie Humaine. From the deceptive levity of “Three Maids In a Tub” (the original rhyme) to the pathos of Sisyphus, and the whimsy of A Corset Line.

"I believe everything an artist is and has experienced informs their work. I've had the good fortune to study art and art history, philosophy and ancient history and languages, and to travel. Lately I’ve been revisiting the Italian Renaissance and Baroque which has spurred a renewed interest in figurative painting. And all this has come together to inform my work. In the immortal words of John Lee Hooker: “. . . let that boy boogie-woogie, ‘Cause it’s in him and it got to come out”.”

Ralph studied art at the Alberta College of Art and the University of Calgary, and has a degree in Art History from the U of C. His work is held in the Alberta College of Art permanent collection and is featured in private collections in Canada, the USA, Europe and Australia. He lives and works in the forest in southern Ontario.
