Marlene Bulas has been painting for approximately 20 years and has enjoyed every moment of it. As a child, her mother would encourage her to draw and paint, which was very special, as her mother had studied with some of The Group of Seven. Becoming a dental hygienist, raising a family, and working in her husband’s dental practice, there was no time for art. When a friend invited her to attend an art class, a door suddenly opened. Her art journey began when she enrolled in the Georgian College Design and Visual Arts Program, followed by numerous art workshops in Canada and USA, France, Italy, Mexico, Ireland, California, Florida, Newfoundland, and British Columbia. She became involved in many group shows, solo shows, gallery shows, and studio tours, as well as teaching art workshops and winning awards and recognition. Her paintings have been described as “bold and colourful with a unique style.” A client commented that “Her paintings capture life in a simple way. Her work makes me feel comforted and content.” Feeling joyful when painting “life’s simple pleasures “, she finds inspiration in the Canadian landscape, both urban and rural. Memorable summers at the cottage on Georgian Bay is one of the reasons why water is one of her favourite subjects, along with sailboats, cottages, people on the beach, and birches on the shore. Paintings of trips to Ireland, France, and Italy often have water in them also. Her hope is that people enjoy her paintings as much as she enjoys painting them. Visitors are welcome to visit her studio by chance or appointment.
