Danielle Skentzos grew up on a farm in Oro-Medonte, Ontario. It wasn’t until after her postgraduate studies in Australia, that she first experienced the feeling of clay smoothly turning through her hands on a pottery wheel. It was a curiosity that unearthed a feeling of home; of early years spent watching animals and acres grow and a youth of tending local gardens with friends. She continued learning from a variety of generous artists and time spent at Haliburton School of Art.
Recently, Danielle completed a mentorship, (Creative Directions with Angelo di Petta) through Fusion: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association. Over the two year process, she focussed on developing a new line of work exploring her surface design. Cultivate, the group exhibition, was featured in the Gardiner Shop, Toronto (May - July 2021).
Danielle founded Shiralee Pottery to share her functional work, inspired by the beauty found near home. Her work is available in her online shop, the Gardiner Shop and has been included in: The One of A Kind Show, The Handmade Market, Kempenfest and the Midhurst Arts and Crafts Home Tour. Take the backroads to visit Danielle’s home studio and experience the warmth and comfort of clay for yourself.
